Babies?

“Let us know; let us press on to know the Lord; his going out is as sure as the showers, as the spring rains that water the earth.” Hosea 6:3

We just left the post office, when Louisa called me, “come here.” It had that hurry and see enthusiasm behind it. I grabbed my phone, photo op for sure and immediately thought it was going to be “babies”. I was expecting to approach quietly still thinking something was nesting nearby. There among the brown and mucky waters, with beige hues of grass mounds laid down from the winter snow was a scattering of twiggy bushes with tiny soft white pods,  just beckoning.  The tiniest of pussy willows.  It was sheer delight to see. Spring for us is later than most areas. 3-4 weeks behind downstate.  Emerging ever so slowly. I imagine the new life does not want to peek out only to be blasted by a cold front that can still descend upon us. But these little buds are an indicator of soon. A joyous sign for sure. Babies!

“Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your request to God. And the peace of God which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds with Christ Jesus.” To me Paul’s exhortation from Philippians 4 is like handing someone a bunch of pussy willows. In some areas of Europe they would use them instead of palms on Palm Sunday. Offering calming peace, that recognition of joy made visible, look here spring is coming. Isn’t that what God says to us “look here,” He is coming. All I know is I want to see more and more clearly. I want a continual gentle awakening to press on. The verse cited from Hosea above says, “let us” press on to know the Lord. Is it an “if” statement?  If we know Him, if we see Him, if we Hear from Him…. All of this makes me want to know more of Him. It gives you such certainty and clarity when you see His Hand in things. God our creator! Surely you will find Him in your day today.

Just two girls in the woods for ONE, making discoveries of His love and favor in the signs of spring.
